Penns Creek Angler will be closed starting August 3rd for the remainder of the month. We will reopen Sept 1st @ 9:30am
I will be checking my emails, phone messages and updating the stream reports once a week. Send an email or call and leave a message for lodging. You can rent the Apt above the shop for Penns State Games now or reserve the house on the Creek for fishing during the months of September-Nov.

This August has been extremely nice to Penns Creek, I am looking forward to a great Fall season. I saw a great hatch of Yellow Drakes last night and the bass went nits for them.

Becoming a stream steward is a job I didn't know I would have to take on when I opened this shop. But the reason I moved to this area is because I love Penns Creek. My dream was to live on the Penns Creek and enjoy her beauty. I've fished Penns and her tributaries since I was a small boy. The creek at the present time is 120 cfs at the town of Penns Creek, that's 20 river miles below the bottom of the Catch and Release. The creek is very low in Glen Iron and the water from Coburn down stream is even lower. I'm sorry to say in some years the creek just gets too hot to fish for trout unless you are keeping them and there is nothing wrong with keeping a few. Yes there are fish at the feeders but they are struggling to survive at this point. Most of the fish you catch during the next 7 weeks will not live after you catch them. There are many other streams to fish including Spring Creek, Big Fishing Creek and all the mountain streams in this area that you can fish and enjoy yourself. If you choose to fish Penns Creek at this time of year because someone tells you there are great hatches and the water temperature is fine, you will quickly find that is not the case. There is nothing that bothers me more than driving 200 miles to find poor fishing conditions, I'm sure you feel the same way. Besides there are other fish, Bass, Walleye, Pike and great hatches on other Trout streams. I know most people have stopped fishing for trout, I hope you are one of them. For me its on to Bass, Walleye, Musky until Mid-September when the water cools and the trout have some fight in them.
The fishing should be great this fall, the water levels have been good enough to keep the fish in great shape! The best fishing of the year is still to come. Starting in September we will see Cahill's, Slate Drakes, BWO's, Green Caddis and Hoppers. Its time to start thinking about a vacation in Sept, Oct and November for dry fly fishing and plan some long weekends to nymph fish in Dec and Jan.
Thanks for all the support this year!
I hope to see you all in the fall season.
